Double Bridles are not for everyone, but once you and your horse are so developed while riding it might be interesting to start looking at a double bridle. A Double bridle is special because of the extra bit the horse has in its mouth in addition to the bit. This also requires extra straps on your bridle. Many people are familiar with a double bridle, but what is its function? A double bridle can only be used in equestrian sports from a certain level. This is because you need to have the necessary experience to ride with this bridle. With a double bridle you not only have a bit but also a snaffle. Attached to both of these are reins that allow you to refine the aids. 

Difference from a normal bridle

Bridles with a high noseband have a flash strap. As soon as a bar is added to the bridle, there is no flash strap on the noseband. The bar sits next to the bit in the horse’s mouth and is attached with a chin chain. The bar has leverage, which is why it is important that there is no constant pressure on it. The barbell then lapses so that the bar does not come to a standstill.

If you are going to buy a double bridle you are not done with just the bridle. As with a snaffle bridle, you also need reins and bits. A double bridle has a bit and a bar. The bit is for the “snaffle” part of the bridle. Here you choose a bit that fits your horse but in a thinner size. You do this because there is still a bit to put in the mouth and otherwise the space becomes too tight and this is not comfortable for the horse.
