Reins
Reins for the horses
Reins is a part many people forget. It belongs to the bridle but is often not sold together. It is something that comes in many shapes and sizes. Once you are a fan of a pair you won’t switch quickly. It is part where you as a rider have all the control and the horse plays no role. Do you want to know all about reins before you make your choice? Then read on below!Â
The function of a rein
The reins you buy, you often attach to your bridle and bit right away and then probably never take them off. The rein is the piece of leather, rubber, nylon, etc. you hold in your hands while riding. It gives your hands control over your horse. With a snaffle bridle, you have one rein in your hands. Once you start riding with a double, a rein is added. There is one rein connected to the snaffle bit and one rein connected to the double.Â
Different types of reins
There are different types of reins on the market, each with a different effect. What matters is the grip you have with each kind. What matters here is what the rider likes. A leather rein feels different in the hand than a rubber one, for example. You have some models of reins that improve the grip in your hand, have a function or improve the look.Â
- Extra stop reins: these reins have a stop every few centimeters to create a gripping point for the rider.Â
- Martingale stoppers: these are on reins to stop the martingale rings from reaching the bit. Many jumpers use a martingale. For many dressage riders, these stoppers are unnecessary.Â
Different materials for reins
Reins don’t all have the same material either, and every rider has their favorites. These materials differ because of the types of grip they give the rider. All UNIQ Bridles reins have a nylon core that makes them durable and strong.Â
- Leather reins: most reins are made of leather which makes them durable. You also have different models in these. For example, you have leather reins and leather reins with stops. The UNIQ Bridles reins are all finished in leather which makes them a good match for your bridle.Â
- Rubber reins: these reins are high quality and offer a good grip all over the reins.Â
- Super grip: with super grip reins there is a side with super grip in addition to a leather side. As a result, there is always a strong grip for the rider.Â
The fit of a rein
The reins you choose probably come in different sizes. It is important not to leave too much space at the end of the rein. This is so it doesn’t get caught between anything. Not sure what size reins you need? Then contact me here for questions.
The safety of the reins
Without reins, riding with a bridle becomes very difficult. So it is important that you choose reins in a good size and model. They should fit you as a rider and be long enough for your horse. Riding with a broken rein can be dangerous in the long run.Â
